Optimism Process 1

My personal brand consists of feminine, elegant eveningwear. With each look I create, I strive for women to look polished, yet unique. My brand uses prints, beadwork and embroidery to enhance textiles and to add to the distinctiveness of the designs. The theme for this collection is optimism, which typically entails a sense of hopefulness and positivity. The contemporary market consumer I am targeting is striving to look at things on the bright side and make the most out of her life. She is a strong and feminine woman in her twenties who wants a trendy yet elegant look for cocktail parties and other events. She lives in a large city on the west coast and enjoys the color yellow because it is a symbol of positivity. According to the WGSN S/S 19 trend “Common Ground,” yellow, marigold, metallic gold, nude, taupe and brown will be trending next year. I will use these colors as well as soft blue to convey my concept. For my prints, my hand-drawn floral motifs strive to be light-hearted and feminine. The fabrics I have chosen are light and drapeable, allowing me to create gathers for ruffles and other details. I have created samples of ruffles made of muslin and tulle to test hem techniques. On the muslin, I have sewn a overlock machine rolled hem, and on both the muslin and tulle I have sewn a serger rolled hem.
